Uttarakhand. Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar of Uttarakhand Police had directed STF to take action to prevent and arrest the illegal activities of smugglers involved in illegal smuggling of wildlife parts in the country. In continuation of which, SSP STF Navneet Bhullar has clearly instructed his teams to prepare the horoscope of every smuggler involved in wildlife smuggling and ensure strict action against them.
In this sequence, on receiving information about wildlife smuggling from WCCB Delhi, Uttarakhand STF arrested 01 wildlife smuggler from Purola area of Uttrakhand district today and recovered 02 leopard skins (whose length is approximately 06 feet and 08 feet respectively) from his possession.
Giving information in the above case, SP STF Chandramohan Singh said that Uttarakhand STF had received manual information from WCCB Delhi that illegal smuggling of wildlife parts and skins is going on in Purola Uttarkashi area, which was developed manually by Uttarakhand STF from its local sources, on which today a person has been arrested near the trisection going towards Lisa Bhandaar Purola, who told his name as Brijmohan son Janak Singh and 02 leopard skins whose length was 06 feet and 08 feet respectively were found from his possession.
Leopard has been kept in the first schedule of Wildlife Protection Act, hunting it is a serious crime, a case has been registered against the smugglers caught in Police Station Purola Uttarkashi under Wildlife Act.
Superintendent of Police STF Chandramohan Singh informed that as per the information received from interrogation of the accused, the STF is conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and if the involvement of any other person is found in this matter then action will be taken against him. Information is also being sought from the Forest Department.
SSP STF has appealed to the public to immediately contact the nearest police station or STF Uttarakhand (0135-2656202) for action against wildlife smugglers. Uttarakhand STF will continue to take action against wildlife smugglers in future as well, so that hunting of innocent and mute animals can be effectively curbed.
