Prisoner caught in police encounter… Prisoner escaped from lockup

Lohaghat (Champawat). The police arrested the prisoner Di who had escaped from Lohaghat Jail during an encounter in Binwalgaon, Reeth Sahib forest area. The police recovered a country-made pistol with one live and two empty cartridges from the accused’s possession. A case has been registered against the accused in Reeth Sahib police station for firing on the police team and possessing illegal weapons.

On September 27, the accused Shankar Lal Chaudhary, son of Vipat Lal Chaudhary, resident of village Dharmapur Mahendra Nagar (Nepal) was sent to judicial prison Lohaghat on charges of raping a woman in Chalthi area, who escaped from Lohaghat Jail on September 12. The escape of the prisoner caused a stir in the entire police administration, in connection with which Section 262 BNS was registered against the accused in Lohaghat police station. SP Champawat Ajay Ganpati conducted a thorough checking campaign in all the police station areas of the district and directed all the station in-charges to arrest the accused.

On the instructions of the SP, Champawat Police conducted a thorough checking campaign in the district while making relief and rescue work and smooth travel arrangements during the heavy rains/disaster that has been going on for two days.

On the evening of September 13, Kamlesh Bhatt, SHO, Reeth Sahib Police Station, received information from Reeth Sahib Police Station area that the accused Shankar Lal was in Binwalgaon forest area in Reeth Sahib area, on which the police team under the leadership of the station in-charge immediately went to Binwal village forest area and raided to arrest the accused.

During this time, when the accused was seen in the forest area and the police team tried to catch him, the accused started firing at the police team, to which the police team retaliated in self-defense. The accused sustained some injuries due to falling while running away to avoid arrest.

The accused Shankar Lal was arrested from the jungle of Binwal village by the police team. Police recovered an illegal country-made pistol, one live and two empty cartridges from the possession of the accused. Police have registered a case against the accused for firing at the police team.

Police is interrogating the prisoner about how he escaped from the jail. The police team included SO Kamlesh Bhatt, SI Tejkumar, Head Constable Rajendra Prasad, Head Constable Deepak Bisht, Head Constable Harish Nath, Constable Manoj Kumar. Champawat police heaved a sigh of relief after the escaped prisoner was caught.
