Dehradun. The matter of fire in Jhajhra sub-station has now caught fire. The entire energy department is shocked by the incident of two fires at an interval of a few days. Significantly, there was a fire in Jhajhra sub-station last month.

Considering the seriousness of the matter, the government has now handed over the investigation of the fire to the Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. The team of expert engineers of Power Grid will now investigate the matter closely and submit its report to the government.

It may be mentioned here that in July, Jhajhra sub-station caught fire with a loud bang for about 3 minutes, due to which the line tripping breakers got burnt. A major accident in the capital Dehradun was averted. Initially it was termed as the negligence of Pitcul employees.

Pitcul MD PC Dhyani had constituted a three-member inquiry committee to probe the fire incident. This team was to submit its report in 15 days. The expertise of this inquiry committee was questioned at that time. Meanwhile, after about three days, the transformer tripped again in Pitcul.

For this, Pitcul management had shrugged off the fault in UPCL’s Selakui feeder at Jhajhra by citing the reason. Departmental Secretary Meenakshi Sundaram is said to be very angry with the politics in the department regarding Jhajhra sub-station of Pitcul.

This is the reason that taking cognizance of the matter, on July 24, Secretary Energy Secretary Meenakshi Sundaram, while handing over the investigation to the Electricity Safety Department, sought a report in two days. Electrical Safety Department could not investigate it.
