Dehradun. (23 September) BJP has urged Congress MLAs to attend the meeting of the Assembly Select Committee in public interest. State President Mahendra Bhatt has said that the opposition needs to show seriousness regarding civic elections and OBC reservation.
He has expressed concern over the absence of Congress MLAs from the first meeting of the Select Committee. He has also accused the government of not being serious about civic elections and OBC representation in it. He taunted that Congress keeps making false allegations against the government on public forums for not holding civic elections. But unfortunately, their MLAs did not even consider it necessary to attend the meeting of the Select Committee constituted on this issue. If they have any objection, they should have come forward to present their party’s side.
He alleged that in fact the Congress party does not want reservation for OBC society to be determined. It is showing irresponsible attitude on the serious issue of civic elections for political gain. The reality is that the Congress party is against OBC reservation, it does not want the backward classes of the society to get their representation in the civic elections.
The real intention behind their demand for early elections is to exclude a large section from the role of public representation. While the BJP took this issue seriously and formed a single-member commission, the detailed report of that commission was placed in the House. Our MLAs were also present for discussion in the meeting of the Select Committee formed with the consent of the House. On the other hand, the Congress party is not serious about this issue and for them this entire issue is political. The public is seeing that they make false allegations about constitutional institutions and processes but have never shown a positive attitude on this issue, they have always been trying to misuse it.
He urged that there is still an opportunity in front of the Congress, they must participate in the second meeting of the Select Committee to be held on 24 September. They should understand the seriousness of the issue that the committee has to submit the report by 8 October. Therefore, the Congress party should show full seriousness in public interest by setting aside party politics.
